It looks like we will have enough spinach to put a bag in each CSA box this week. We spent quite a bit of time today picking little spinach leaves in unheated cold frames. Crawling on your hands and knees in January picking spinach is a bit humbling. Most of the time I am fairly content with the choices I've made in terms of my occupation although I did have some second thoughts today. After picking the spinach I seeded some more micro greens in the heated greenhouse which felt much better. It was probably around twenty-five or thirty degrees in that greenhouse; kind of like Cuba. I hope to spend some time tomorrow pruning the fruit trees. My mother was climbing around the apple trees with her pruning saw today when it was at least minus ten outside. I have a neighbour who is almost eighty years old and he prunes every day in winter regardless of weather. I hope that I either develop good hobbies or bad addictions by the time that I'm eighty; anything to keep me out of those trees. Tonight I went to town with Sarah and Aleida (my 8 and 6 year olds). We had ice cream sundaes at Dairy Queen. It is a great time of the year for me with things slowing down enough for me to have evening outings with the kids. I think I'll start ordering seeds tonight for the upcoming season although I can't say I"m really in the mood. By the time that the seeds arrive on the farm I'll probably be in the mood. Usually by mid-March I am staring at the snow almost angry that it won't melt any faster. I think they have medication for people like me. Have a good week. ted
