I just came in the house for lunch to send a quick newsletter. I was too busy last week to finish a newsletter; at least that is my excuse. We are eating a few snap peas out of the earliest planting but there will not be enough for the boxes untill next week. A lot of the vegetable plantings are nearly ready for harvest but they are a bit slow right now. It has been quite cold for the time of year. We are having some trouble with the spring broccoli and kohlrabi plantings. Several plants are dying from root maggots. Hopefully the percentage of mortality will not be too high although it is worse than I have seen in the past.
We continue to plant and weed almost every day. In a couple of weeks several young employees will begin for the summer. This should help spread the workload out and make my own life slightly less stupid.
The boxes will still mostly be comprised of greens. Peas and snap peas should be ready the next week. Carrots, beets, kohlrabi and nappa are another week or two. I would expect strawberries typically in a couple of weeks but they look like the season will also be late; probably at the end of the month. It is kind of odd to be sitting in the house on June 6 with the woodstove going.
