I think that 2023 has probably been the most difficult season (so far) that I have encountered. We have seen huge crop losses from the polar vortex in February as well as significant drought and flooding at different stages of plant growth. And we have actually been fairly lucky in terms of weather events compared to some other areas of Nova Scotia. Because of the diversity of the crops that we grow we are still ok. Some things have been huge failures and some things have done very well. We are at the point in the season where you will see a significant change in product offerings. Eggplants and peppers are beginning to show up on the plants and I hope to eat at least one melon by the weekend. Hopefully melon picking begins in about a week or ten days. The melons are late and we have had quite a bit of crop loss but they are coming. Most of our later crops like cauliflower, broccoli, cabbages, leeks, nappa, squash, kalettes, brussels sprouts, and many others look very promising at this point. Apples and pears are very close to harvest as well. I am still seeding and transplanting every few days and will continue to do so for another three weeks. We are thankful that overall the season has not been a disaster for us. There are a lot of challenges but also some successful crops being harvested.
