Hutten Family Farm Newsletter for Sunday Jul 4, 2010

The weather has been very hot and will continue to be so this week.  This weather is great for cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes and other heat loving crops, but difficult for those working in the field!  Our time is evenly divided between weeding existing crops, planting crops for fall, and harvesting to meet the weekly demand.  Yellow beans are new this week and we should have enough to add a little to the boxes.
The CSA membership continues to grow steadily with most members receiving the standard CSA box.  If you have any comments for us please don't hesitate to contact us.  We have been really pleased with how the whole process has been working out and have received much positive feedback from our customers.  People have been pretty faithful to return their boxes and icepacks each week.  Icepacks are easy to forget so if you have a few send them along in your next box please!
Each week we have more variety of production. The standard box will continue to reflect this in the coming weeks.  This week we hope to put into your boxes-
  • yellow beans
  • cucumber
  • swiss chard
  • zucchini
  • some kind of peas
  • boston lettuce
  • green onions
  • the end of the apples
  • and we will see what else is ready
This is what the red currants looked like May 15, today they are nice and plump and red
