Hutten Family Farm Newsletter for Monday Jan 17, 2011

Wow, it is Monday night and I have not written a newsletter yet. There is micro greens ready in the greenhouse for sure this week. I am going to have to do a little thinking to come up with the rest. Maybe some dark purple carrots to shred with the greens for a nice little salad. It is presently about minus 12 celsius outside which means that spinach and arugula in cold frames are not happy right now. They will not die from this, but they might suffer a bit of damage from the dehydrating effects of the cold.
We hope to have some sunny days over the next little while. This will allow us to get some pruning done in the apple trees. We usually prune in the winter when the weather is suitable. Many farmers summer prune their orchards but I do not. It is just too hard to find the time in the summer with all the berry crops and vegetables around.
It is after ten now so I'm going to bed.Have a good week.
