Hutten Family Farm Newsletter for Sunday Nov 21, 2010

It’s six pm and already minus 2 degrees C. The forecast is for minus 6 tonight and strong winds.  Thankfully most of the crops are now inside.  We are presently transplanting kale from the field into cold frames.  These plants will winter in the cold frame and produce nice young kale shoots in march.  We are preparing the heated greenhouse for seeding in the next ten days.  This greenhouse will be planted with mixed asian greens and lettuces to produce a micro-mix salad for the coldest months of the year.

We are starting to think about Christmas and the CSA deliveries.  Our plan right now for the Halifax and Kentville Wednesday CSA customers is to deliver throughout the holiday season as per usual.  You can still put your box on hold if you are gone for the holiday season.  We will have to come up with a plan for the Wolfville customers, Debra will talk to you at the market.

We don’t know what we are putting in the boxes this week but we’ll send out a complete list of contents on Wednesday morning in the reminder.  We sometimes need a reminder to send out the reminder as we have missed sending it out the last few weeks! Sorry- Ted
