Hutten Family Farm Newsletter for Wednesday Jul 8, 2020

The CSA is back today for pickup after the Canada Day holiday last week. The boxes have strawberries, spring carrots, broccoli, summer turnips, swiss chard, zucchini, and lettuce this week. A little more like summer food and less like spring greens.
We had almost a half inch of rain on monday which was very much needed. This was the first precipitation that we have had in a month. It looks like we will have another shower or light rain tonight. This will soften the soil and allow us to keep planting for later in the fall and winter. It also made digging carrots yesterday a bit easier.
We are starting to pick a few sour cherries now as well as a few red currants. I think that we will have some blueberries within a couple weeks.Raspberries are very close as well. The beans are starting to set some fruit but it will probably be at least a week for the first small pick. We have peppers and eggplants and melons in flower now with small fruit beginning on a few plants.
We continue to weed, plant, and harvest each day. There are now five of us working most days and things are going generally well. I feel much more positive about the season after the rain this past monday.  Hopefully it continues over the next few weeks.
Enjoy the CSA box this week.
