Hutten Family Farm Newsletter for Tuesday Aug 7, 2018

I think that today was the most disgustingly hot day that I have had the pleasure of working for some time. The humidex was about 43 degrees today. I told the employees to go home at around 2:30 pm because we were all too tired and hot to do anything. We did pick the very first diplomat melons today and we ate one of them at the end of the day. The amount of heat that we are being blessed with might make us cranky but it is going to make for a very sweet melon crop. We also picked some eggplants today as well as a few okra and peppers. The various types of melons will be part of the CSA boxes for the next several weeks.
I  will be delivering the CSA boxes to both the Halifax and Kentville drops around noon time to ensure that the boxes are delivered cold and fresh. Try to pick up your CSA box as soon as possible tomorrow (12 noon in Kentville;  after 2:30 pm in Halifax). Enjoy the fresh fruits and berries and salad items. It is way to hot to cook anything.
Have a good week.
