Hutten Family Farm Newsletter for Monday Dec 21, 2015

We picked the last of the green kale that was still in the field today. I think that is probably the latest harvest date for kale that I can remember. We have a significant amount pf kale plants in storage now. Except for a few carrots still in the field, we are now finished with outside crops for the year.
We started planting micromix in the heated greenhouse about twenty days ago and I expect the first of it will be ready for the CSA delivery the first week of January. Micromix and kale are the two greens that are fairly reliable in the middle of winter and we try to have spinach, arugula, and mache available weather permitting. By late February or early March we will have lots of greens again from overwintered plantings in unheated cold frames. Early March seems a lot closer this year because the weather still feels very fall-like.
We have decided to deliver the CSA boxes this coming Wednesday (Dec 23).  Many people are travelling and we never know what is the best thing to do but we have had many CSA members asking for the delivery this week so they will be available.  We do not plan to deliver the boxes on Dec 30. The CSA will resume as usual on Jan 6.
Have a Merry Christmas. We hope you have some time off work or school and can spend some days with friends and family.

Ted, Debra, Katherine, Sarah, and Aleida
